Leading Apprentice Talamo Riding At Zia Park Sunday
HOBBS, New Mexico (November 11, 2007) – The nation’s leading young jockey Joe Talamo will be riding during the New Mexico Cup program at Zia Park on Sunday afternoon.
The New Mexico Cup program offers $2 million in purses on 11 stakes
races for New Mexico-bred Thoroughbreds and Quarter Horses. First post time is
12:15 p.m.
Talamo is the 17-year-old riding sensation who grew up in Louisiana and is now riding on the high-profile Southern California circuit. This year, his mounts have earned nearly $10 million and he has won more than 230 races, among the top 15 jockeys in the nation.
At Zia Park on Sunday afternoon, his first mount will be in the first race aboard the Quarter Horse Bullets Brother in the $140,000 New Mexico Classic Cup 870-yard Championship. Bullets Brother is a 12-1 outsider on the morning line, but has a win and a third in his latest two starts.
Talamo has an excellent opportunity to win the $140,000 New Mexico Cup Championship Fillies, the second race, aboard Silver Expression. The 3-year-old filly has three stakes wins in her latest five starts. She is the morning-line 5/2 favorite.
