Let go at over 8-1 odds, Run Perry Run sped to a comfortable neck victory
over Heavenly Trip in the $113,490 Grade 1 Bank of America New Mexico
Challenge at 440 yards.
Carl Draper’s talented four-year-old broke alertly and poured on the pressure
midway through the stretch run. The Mr Jess Perry gelding continued to find
his best strides and took control with 150 yards to go in the rich feature.
With jockey Bonifacio Perez in the saddle, Run Perry Run held sway from a
game Heavenly Trip. He kept her at bay to win in a time of 21.51 seconds.
The multiple stakes winner improved his career mark to 6 wins, 2 seconds and
2 thirds from 18 starts. He earned $52,206 on Sunday, pushing his career
bankroll past the $286,000 mark.
Run Perry Run returned $19.60 on a $2 win ticket.
Heavenly Trip finished one-half length in front of Catscape.
