victory in $33,500 opening day feature Ken Tohill
boots home four winners
Kin to a Kitty roared to a front running victory in Tuesday’s opening day feature
at Sunland Park Racetrack and Casino.
The stylish grey roan filly by Tactical Cat broke sharply and finished with determination
to score an emphatic 2-length win over a stakes quality field in the $33,500 allowance
feature at 6 furlongs.
Under jockey Brian Long, the the 4-5 favorite repelled an early challenge from Kranky
Karol in upper stretch en route to an impressive performance. Kin to a Kitty was
highly regarded coming off a stakes win at Zia Park.
The former Santa Anita Park maiden winner is trained by Mac Millar for owners
Vernon and Sylvia Hauschild of Ruidoso, New Mexico.
Kin to a Kitty might next be pointed to the $50,000 Bold Ego Handicap to be
run at Sunland Park on Sunday, Dec. 30. The 4-time winner has earned nearly
$100,000 in her young career.
I’m N Clover closed with a late burst to gain second place. Samantha’s Way
wound up a neck back in third.
Defending Sunland Park riding champion returned with a flourish by winning
four races on the card. The talented reinsman won with Top Fantasy (4th race),
Anybodys Guess (7th race), Sulphur Water (8th race) and That’s Mr To You
(11th race).
Live racing resumes on Friday at 12:15 p.m. The $125,000 Jess Burner Memorial
Handicap and the $50,000 KLAQ Handicap are set for Saturday. The $125,000
New Mexico State Racing Commission Handicap starring the sensational filly
Peppers Pride and the $125,000 Johnie L. Jamison Handicap will be run on
Sunday.
