- By Eric Alwan
Two-time Sunland Park riding champion Casey Lambert is primed for the upcoming Sunland Park
season coming off the heels of a superb Zia Park campaign.
On Sunday, Lambert guided Tap Dancing Mauk to a thrilling stretch running win in the $175,000
Zia Park Distance Championship for trainer Dale Romans.
The former Coronado High School graduate is enjoying a highly profitable campaign at the
Hobbs racetrack having won five major stakes races including two scores in six figure
races. Lambert’s mounts at Zia Park have earned well over $719,000. He is the leading
rider in terms of money won.
His list of stakes winners included Some Ghost, Yonegwa, Sumfun and Buddha Lady.
Lambert was coming off a series of injuries at Lone Star Park and most recently at
Sunland Park last March. The resilient jockey recovered from neck, jaw and wrist injuries
in only 6 months to bounce back for a superior campaign at Zia Park.
According to his agent Dominic Rivera, Lambert aims for another successful stint at
Sunland Park Racetrack and Casino this season starting on Wednesday, Dec. 12.
He plans to ride for the following trainers: Jess Alley, Chip Woolley, Chris Hartman,
Cliff Lambert, Todd Fincher and Steven Asmussen.
Lambert was the 2007 recipient of the Bob Haynsworth Sportsmanship Award
The $19 million live racing season at Sunland Park begins on Wednesday at 12:15 p.m.
$1 hot dogs, $1 live racing programs and $1 pepsi will be on sale. Racing continues
