Blazin N Shakin roared to a world record setting victory in the $125,000 NMHBA

Quarter Horse Stakes at Sunland Park Racetrack and Casino on Sunday.

The lightning fast Chicks A Blazin filly dominated her opponents by a clear length,

and she stopped the clock for 400 yards in an eye opening 18.865 seconds, besting

the former world and track record of 18.867 seconds held by Gotta Get at Sunland Park

in February of 2007.

Under jockey Chris Zamora, Blazin N Shakin accelerated smoothly on the inside and

opened up a daylight advantage midway through the feature race. She sped home

authoritatively, well clear of Blazin Force and Dpi Good Boy who finished in a dead-heat

for second place.

Zamora said in a post-race interview, “She’s a great filly, a real champion. She
proved how good she is today. Last time, we didn’t get the best break, and we

just missed. Today is ladies’ day. I’m dedicating the win to my wife Jamie (trainer).”

The winner earned a 105 speed index, running the fastest 400 yard race in the

history of Quarter Horse racing. She is owned by Mike Abraham and Leslie and

Pierre Amestoy. The winner’s paycheck was $75,000.

Winning trainer Jamie Zamora has directed Blazin N Shakin through 4 career wins including

the New Mexico State Fair Senorita Futurity last fall. The multiple stakes winning queen

has earned nearly $200,000 from just 6 career starts.

Blazin N Shakin returned $8.40 on each $2 win ticket for her loyal fans. She avenged

a narrow defeat to Dpi Good Boy in the Shue Fly last December.

The popular Dpi Good Boy raced as the 8-5 favorite with jockey Esgar Ramirez. He broke

cleanly but found his best strides too late. The co-runner-up earned $19,375 for the

Desirable Properties, Inc. of Wimberley, Texas. The Chicks A Blazin gelding has never

finished worse than third in six career starts.

Blazin Force completed a clean sweep of Chicks a Blazin progeny finishing in the top

three. The New Mexico-bred filly also earned $19,375 for the BLM Racing Stables, Inc.

of El Paso, Texas.

Live racing resumes on Tuesday at 12:55 p.m. The $600,000 WinStar Derby, Sunland Park’s

signature event, happens is less than 2 weeks. The one and one-eighth mile classic for

Three-year-olds will be staged on Sunday, March 16.
